About Us

Wellingborough Open Archery Club (WOAC) is an archery club based in Wellingborough it is an inclusive club for all ages and abilities.  We were founded in 1955 by a group of archery enthusiasts, mainly from Chapmans Box factory.

We pride ourselves on being a nice, fair, fun, social and at times competitive club.  We offer coaching, equipment assistance, hire bows, foam bosses indoor and outdoor, a dedicated shooting venue and a friendly atmosphere.

Competitions

WOAC has held an annual outdoor competition since 1956, which has, on occasions, attracted up to 100 archers from novices to national champions. Since 1989 an annual indoor competition has been held and from 2008 an additional indoor competition has been added in remembrance of a former club member.

Each year we can host anywhere from 8 to 15 competitions and scored rounds.

Open

The word Open has appeared in the club name since the early years.  Our club is family orientated and caters for archers of all ages and abilities. We actively welcome archers with disabilities and both our ranges are fully accessible. We also have a thriving junior mini-club, the WOAC Colts.

Progression

There are currently 7 qualified level 1 coaches with more in training, three level 2 coaches and a county level coach.  We have a dedicated coaching session each week and are coaching principles from the ArcheryGB technical framework.  Several club members represent the Northamptonshire County squad in competitions.  So if you are just a social archer or want to take it more seriously we can help.

Field of our Dreams

In 2015, the clubs 60th Anniversary, we moved our outdoor shooting field to our new permanent venue at Old Grammarians Memorial Sports field in Sywell Road, Wellingborough.  This has enabled us to extend the normal club session, two evenings a week and Saturday afternoons – to almost 24 hours.  Archery all day, every day!!
